Microsoft has not been installed for the current user error message when you try and start an Office 2007 or Windows XP program for the first time

When you boot up a Virtual Machine either via Parallels Desktop for Mac OS X or VMware’s Fusion after installing Office 2007 and possibly another Windows application you can receive this very frustrating message. In my case it was after I installed Microsoft’s Live Office plugin. Before I discovered the fix I used the snapshot feature in Parallels Desktop for Mac OS X to rollback my installation to an earlier snapshot. This is a very nice feature but as a result I lost quite a few software programs that I had installed and as a result I had to re-install that software.

That was a lesson learned on several fronts: one take snapshots more often, they don’t require a tremendous amount of disk space and you can save yourself a lot of work by taking a snapshot after each major software installation or similar milestone event resulting in major registry entries, etc.
